Today’s itinerary didn’t go as planned.

I was SUPPOSED to:

1. Return the sheetrock lift to the rental place.
2. Go to BodyPump.
3. Hit the grocery store.
4. Get some work done.

Instead, I

1. Returned the sheetrock lift.
2. Thought about how the leaves were ALMOST gone, so my time to take photographs before winter hit was limited.
3. Remembered that I’d wanted to visit Chautauqua Institution, only an hour away…
4. Felt guilty about missing BodyPump.
5. Talked myself into skipping with the knowledge that if I didn’t drag the kids out of the house, Aidan would spend 6 hours sitting on the Xbox.
6. Went home, dragged them to the car, and off we went.

What a neat place. Fortunately, my kids like each other enough (when nobody’s looking) to run around and play games so I can photograph 500 things.

Since most of what I photograph now is intended for home decor, it will come as no surprise that when I spot something fun and interesting to photograph, my brain instantly thinks of all the places it could be displayed. Some pieces are neutral (like in my previous post), while some are just obvious fits for a particular room.

At Chautauqua, I immediately noticed the fun street signs. Wrought iron, rusty, vintage, worn – all of my favorite things. This one – oh my goodness, the possibilities. My first thought was a breakfast nook in the kitchen – where people “park,” since the kitchen is the heart of the home. I also thought of the bathroom – for obvious reasons.How about the front hallway or mudroom – maybe hanging over a bench where you can sit, or PARK to change your shoes?

I usually add a bit of toning to my photographs, but I loved this one as-is – the buildings in the village are so colorful and the autumn leaves were a golden yellow. They all blur together in a medley of bright colors that I think complement the whimsical tone.
