Who doesn’t love Restoration Hardware, amiright? Most (all?) of the furniture Vic builds is modeled after Restoration Hardware or Pottery Barn pieces. It usually goes something like this:
Vic: “I need to build a new XYZ.” (for XYZ, insert bed, table, cabinet, vanity…)
Me: “Ok, let me find one.” Open Pottery Barn or RH catalog…flip, flip, flip…point.
And two weeks later I’m presented with a beautiful new piece.
Yeah, it’s a sweet gig. And no, I don’t loan him out.
Last winter, while strolling through the historic Stockade in Schenectady, this very old pillar and finial on the corner of a crumbling brick wall caught my eye – it was beat up and weathered and covered with vines. While everyone else walked on, I stopped and photographed it from every angle.
You see, I’m a complete and utter sucker for anything with a) neutral tones and b) lots of texture. I can’t explain it, but I find things like that very soothing.
SO – imagine my surprise when I was flipping through the new Restoration Hardware doorstop, paperweight, brick Catalog (did you get one? it’s huge!) and I came to page 246 (not even 1/2way through the dang thing!):

I love that they have theirs in the bedroom – soothing. I like photographs like this one for neutral rooms – bedrooms, bathrooms, dining rooms. I also use them to mix into family wall galleries. Have you tried that? I’ll share pictures of mine soon. I break up walls of family photographs with neutral, texture-rich pieces to give the eye a place to rest and to grab attention.
