So Aidan’s a big kid. Always has been, as he takes after my Dad, who is a BIG DUDE. So people have been saying “football player” to him since he was…oh…about 3 months old (to put things into perspective, Aidan was 32 pounds at 12 months – and no, that’s not an exaggeration).
He’s been asking to play for years, but I refused to let him. Why? Because the only local leagues were weight-based, so he’d end up playing with kids 3 and 4 years older than him. Ummm…no thanks. So when the Cherokee County age-based league expanded to include our H.S. district, I finally said yes. He’s playing with 10-11 year olds, and because of his size, he can’t carry the ball. Which is fine, because my boy was born to be a lineman.

That’s him in in the middle – #72 (my favorite numbers, that’s a good boy), with the orange t-shirt underneath. Because his team has so few lineman (everyone wants to be a receiver, ya know?), Aidan plays both offense and defense…they played 4 mini games yesterday (season kickoff) and he wasn’t off the field much.

I’ll tell ya: Baseball never really won me over. It’s ok, but a baseball fan I’m not. But football? I loooove football, ever since Joe Montana <cough> won my heart back in the 80s a few years ago. This is going to be fun. Go Longhorns!
