Monthly Archives: February 2009

His latest creation.

Most of my lovely blog readers know that my husband has a hobby I love: He makes furniture. It soothes his soul…and makes me a very happy woman.

It usually starts by him saying “I need a new project, what would you like?” (yeah, don’t hate me)

This time it was a kitchen table. Ye olde 10 year old light wood oval from Sears just wasn’t cutting it anymore. I knew I wanted a trestle…with a bench. And I wanted the top pieces to be irregular. Dark cherry. Distressed.

Oh…pretty much something exactly like this:

After 17 years together, it’s like he can read my mind. :)

** Session Availability **

Just a quick update on availability:

I am now completely booked for March, 2009. I always try to fit in newborns, so if you are having a baby and are interested in a session, get in touch with me asap.

I have limited dates remaining in April, and am starting to book May and June dates.

I’m booking quite a few newborn sessions lately, which is wonderful. I do love my babies!  But I can’t stress it enough: Get in touch with me early. What we do is go over any questions you have, book your session and I give you a placeholder in my schedule. The placeholders are key, so if you’re having a baby in the next three months and would like a session, contact me as soon as possible so I’m certain to get you a date.

Thank you!

Atlanta Author Jackson Pearce

So this was something a little different for me. I don’t typically do headshots, but I couldn’t refuse when this lovely young lady contacted me. At the ripe old age of 24, she has a novel being published this Fall by Harper Collins. And next year? Novel #2 will be published by Little, Brown.

Jackson needed images for her book jackets, and the mom in me was so proud of her for this amazing accomplishment! So much talent and drive at such a young age. See, mom = proud. I asked her how hard it was to write books and get them published. She paused, then said “Harder than anything you can ever imagine.”

And she is just absolutely lovely – inside and out. She brought her sister along to make her laugh – and it worked! ;)

Her first Young Adult (YA) novel is titled As You Wish, and it’s now available for preorder at Amazon here. It tells the story of a girl who has a heartbreaking experience who inadvertently summons a genie from another world – and he will remain with her until she makes three wishes (Jackson, if that’s not entirely accurate, smack me!).

Her second novel is titled Sisters Red, and is a YA take on the tale of Little Red Riding Hood. The main character’s name is Scarlett.

Her blog is here: WatchMeBe and it is highly entertaining. Witty and smart.

Jackson, it was a pleasure photographing you, and I wish you all the success in the world!

Forty Two

So last week I turned the big 4-2. You’d think I might be a little down about it, but not so much. I decided my being 42 had to be MUCH harder on my mom than on me (since she has a DAUGHTER who is 42 – ha!).

I know it sounds hokey, but here are all of the reasons why 42 rocks for me:

1. I have Aidan and Ava. Trust me, for someone who has struggled with infertility, this is a biggie.

2. I’ve been married for 15 years to a guy I adore. I still get a thrill when I hear him pull into the driveway. He’s amazing, loves me, is a fantastic dad, can fix anything, can make anything…I’m soooo lucky.

3. I’ve turned a long-time passion into a job I love. You know how they say the luckiest people get to do something they love? Well I’m one of them.

4. I’m in better shape now than I was 20 years ago. I’ve always been a fitness nut (pink leotard, tights and leg warmers, anyone??), but I’ve turned it up a notch in the last year. I feel amazing and hope that I’m a great role model for my little girl.

5. Vic made his world-famous fettucine alfredo for my birthday. Seriously…I look forward to it EVERY year, and he only makes it on my birthday. He could open a restaurant and serve only this one thing and people would line up around the block for it. It’s THAT good. And he doesn’t even have a recipe, just mixes it all together. Cream, butter, REAL cheese (lots of it!), bacon, mushrooms, broccoli, chicken…oh mama!

Ok, so Ava just came out and said she dunked her hair in the toilet…Aidan is playing wii with his friend Chris and saying a lot of words that seem to be spin-offs of ‘potty,’ and the dog just ate a coaster. But life is still good. I’m old now, I have hard-earned patience!
