That’s all I did. Really. How did this happen? I remember that first day so vividly – he couldn’t WAIT to go to school. New sneakers, Target t-shirt, Carter’s shorts. New little velcro sneakers. TMNT lunchbox. Spitting image of his dad. Only child. He would turn 5 the very next day, and let me walk with him the whole way to school.
And here we are. All I did was blink. And now he’s almost 11. Camo lunchbox (but he always wants to buy). Wants long hair so he can “flip it.” Will only hold my hand if we’re someplace that he’s certain nobody knows us. Looks more like me. Big brother. Watches Sportscenter in the morning instead of cartoons. Gifted and so intelligent he makes us feel foolish.

He is my heart. I know you’re not supposed to be friends with your children, but he is truly one of my best friends. He calms me and we talk about everything. And I think (!) he listens to me. He’s SO much like me it’s scary, so I’m trying to teach him at a young age the things it took me 30 years (or more) to learn.
I’m afraid to blink again, or I’ll be adding a 3rd panel – graduation day. I’m not ready for that.

Nicole - This post makes me want to have kids of my own one day. Even though I don’t have any yet, it turned my heart to absolute mush. It is so obvious how special this little guy is to you.
Marjorie - Just look at that. He still has baby fat in the first photo. So grownup now. Tell me about blinking…mine are 28, 37 and almost 40. Where did it all go…*sigh*
PS
He really does look a lot like you.
becky - He has grown into a handsom young man. They do grow so fast. Mine is finishing 8th grade and will be in high school in just a few months. Have no clue how that happened.
I’m glad the two of you are such friends
