wall galleries

Most of you know how much I love designing wall galleries for my clients. We chat about the location for the gallery, the wall color, and future plans.

This lovely family wanted a stairwell gallery with gorgeous blue/grey walls. And the plan was to start small and add on in the future.

This was our first design:

When the plan calls for future expansion, I like to show just HOW that gallery can expand:

Can you say YUM?!?

Whenever the plan is expansion, I always suggest an asymmetrical design. Why? Because it’s SO easy to build upon – up, down, left, right – just fitting in new pieces like a puzzle. And it looks great no matter what stage of the process we’re in.

Of course, my own stairway gallery is…ummm…non-existent?  But hey, I’ve been working on the one in my office!

After a couple of versions, my client asked about mixing narrow and wide frames. Which is a GREAT idea: If you start out with two different frames, it’s very easy to include other frame styles in the future. Here, we have two Larson-Juhl frame styles: One is 1.5″ wide crosshatch silver and the other is a 3.75″ wide brushed silver. We varied the matting width as well.

YUM!

This would be a good place to point out a color trend: SILVER! It’s HUGE right now! They just built a new Ralph Lauren store in a mall near us, and they have this amazing (and I mean A-STINKING-MAZING) 3-sided stairwell gallery. And most of the frames? Silver. It really does go with everything, and fits with so many decor styles. And it’s GRAND. Just gorgeous and grand.

I hope you enjoyed this – Be on the lookout for a sneak peek from my first Senior Rep session tomorrow!
