keeping it real

So I rejoined Weight Watchers this morning. I did WW several years ago – before Aidan was born. For someone who is just a touch obsessive about numbers (that would be me), it’s a great plan. I lost 32 pounds in about 8 months quite easily & got my lifetime membership (hee). I would have lost it faster, but I was an exercise freak at the time, which actually SLOWS your weight loss if you don’t eat enough to offset it (go figure). I actually found out I was pregnant the same week I hit my goal weight – nothing like blowing that right out the window, eh?

The WW plan was perfect for me – over time, food just turned into numbers. Pizza wasn’t pizza…it was 9 points. Ice Cream wasn’t ice cream…it was 12 points. Chicken was 4, pasta was 3, and so forth. There’s nothing you can’t have – you just have to decide if it’s worth “spending” the points.

Anyway…9 years, 5 years of infertility treatments, and 2 kids later, my bod isn’t exactly where I want it to be (to put it mildly). I go to the gym consistently (always have), don’t eat TOO badly (let’s just ignore my cravings for Brewster’s Graham Central Station ice cream, shall we?), but things just kinda stay the same.

So, we’re going to give it a go. The new Flex plan takes exercise into account, so that’s a good change. Not sure I love entering things online – I liked keeping my little notebook – so we’ll see how that works out.

And since I’m keeping it real(!), I’m going to share my success once a week with my faithful blog readers. It won’t be a failure, because that’s not an option.:)

Bridget =) - Good for you! I joined WW when Jaden was 4 months old, lost 50 lbs in about 9 months (but never hit goal, eek)… then I stopped nursing (loved those 10 extra pts a day! why did I wean him??? ROFL!), moved, switched jobs… and the weight has slowly krept back on. =( I’m still a member, but I just can’t seem to get my mojo back. I’d love to hear your updates and read your tips… Every Sunday is the start of a new week! Unfortunately, I’m finding myself thinking that on about Tues/Wed… ARGH! ROFL!!!

maya - i won’t bore you with my sob story, but i can’t get motivated either. i’ve never tried weight watcher though. maybe i should.

Sharon - What is it with fertility drugs? It is all their fault and that is my story. I am pretty much in the same boat. So Lisa motivate me maybe next time you do our shoot you won’t have to airbrush my double chin :-) Since you blog so much entering online should be a good thing.

Mom - What week are you going to hit your goal weight? I am assuming that I better not get rid of the crib and high chair just yet?
I remember that week very well! Good luck! I know you can do it again….

Julia - I’m actually doing this now and have lost 4lbs. My goal is 30, so hearing you lost more than that is an inspiration to me. Thanks!

Jeanette - I joined WW last Wednesday and have always found success with their plan. My trouble is maintaining and getting off track once I’ve reached my goal weight. Right now, Trader Joe’s is my friend. I can always find point-friendly meals there.

And, on occasion, if I want Wendy’s french fries, I can have them.

Here’s to WW and points! Good luck!
