Randoms…and a beautiful boy.

I love when an image takes my breath away. How beautiful is little P?

He is such a beautiful baby, isn’t he?

Since I’m random-ing, this is a good place to chat about black and white vs. color, don’t you think?

Here’s the color version of the same image:

I love the color, too. I’m very particular about my color images – I like my images on the cool side, with no color cast. Bright eyes. Perfect skin. Enough contrast so the image has some ‘pop,’ but not too much.

Most photographers have a preference – but I like both. And I think color vs. black and white is often best determined by the image. I actually edit everything in color…then I go back and select a handful to convert to b/w. A few may only be b/w. Baby parts is a good example – I think baby feet and hands are so perfect in black and white so you can see every fold in that chubby new baby skin.

Where the image will hang also plays a part. I LOVE black and white galleries for ‘public’ areas of the home – inside the front door, up the stairway, etc. Nothing is friendlier than greeting your guests with an artistic family gallery. And that’s it, isn’t it? Black and white galleries are artistic.

But in the personal/private areas, I LOVE color galleries. They’re friendly, warm, and make you smile. Memory walls. In children’s bedrooms, family rooms, bathrooms – upstairs hallways. Perfect places for color image galleries.

I really am random-ing, aren’t I?

You may think b/w is easier – just convert to grayscale, right? Nope. The goal is creamy skin without grey. But you can’t go so far that the skin is blown (pure white). It’s a fine line. And you want nice contrast, but I think too much is TOO MUCH. So it’s a multi-step process to get it just right. And I’m ridiculously picky. If a baby is beautiful in person (as they all are!), I want him just as beautiful in his images.

Ok, on to other random things, eh?

I’m working on a new blog. But I’m busy, so it’s a slow process. I may get some help.

I have two ’09 Senior Reps from Walton High School. It amazes me to e-mail with a High School Junior and feel like I’m e-mailing with another adult. Makes me very happy to be associated with such fine young ladies. I should have images of them later this month.

I’m still looking for reps at Walton and Pope…so if you’re interested or know anyone, let me know.

We moved Ava to a ‘big girl bed’ a few weeks ago. After visiting with several clients with children her age – who were in beds – I decided it was time. And it’s gone SO well. She’s sleeping better than ever.

Oh, except for Sunday morning when she got out of bed before we did. She found a jar of Vicks Vaporub and decided it would make a nice fingerpaint for her bedroom walls. Nice. But at least it smells good in there!

Ok, off to edit another session. Be back soon!
